Happy Valley Racecourse Hotels

The Happy Valley Racecourse is a horse racing track that was built in 1845. The course was originally built on swamp land. On February 26, 1918 there was a devastating fire on the race course resulting in the deaths of almost six hundred people. In 1995 the track was rebuilt and is a world renowned facility for horse racing. It is built around hockey, football, and rugby fields.

The heart of Hong Kong is green and it doesn't beat. It thunders with a thousand hoof beats. Since 1846 Happy Valley Racecourse has been home to the finest thoroughbred racing has to offer. Hong Kong literally rose up around the racetrack, a sentry of skyscrapers protecting a treasured jewel. Smack dab in the middle of central Hong Kong, Happy Valley is not only easy to get to, but is surrounded by the twinkling fireworks of lights from Hong Kong's breathtaking skyscrapers. Of course the races are run at night, such a display is only a fitting tribute to the sport of kings and the magnificent horses who run there.

Horse racing is the only legal gambling in Hong Kong and is enthusiastically embraced by the populace. If you'd like to avoid the commuting crowds, the location is close enough that a taxi is not extravagant. Plus, there's the train, buses, and the least expensive option, the tram. You will have no trouble getting to Happy Valley Racetrack.

There are several options for admission. The least expensive is standing room only general admission at the racetrack level. But, if you've been sightseeing or walking the city all day between meetings, you may not have the stamina to stand for a few hours straight at the end of the day. In that case, the next level, the seated general admission of might suit your needs.

But, the best value for tourists is one of the special packages. As a gracious welcome to travelers, for only a glimpse at your passport and a reasonable fee, you are granted various additional V.I.P. amenities such as special access to the Members' private enclosure, Members' betting halls, perhaps a guided tour, track side access, catering, and a seat with a much better view than either of the other general admission areas.
