Hong Kong Disneyland Hotels

Located between Hong Kong International Airport and the downtown area, Hong Kong Disneyland attracts over four million visitors a year. This theme park is owned and operated by the Walt Disney Company and Hong Kong International Theme Parks. The Park opened on September 12, 2005 and can support up to thirty four thousand guests every day.

A Guide to Hong Kong Disneyland

Hong Kong Disneyland was opened in 2005 on Lantau Island in Hong Kong. As is expected for a location like Hong Kong, this Disneyland is smaller than many of it's counterparts in California, Tokyo, and Paris. Occupying only 55 acres, the park handles an average of 34,000 visitors daily; again, the fewest out of all the Disneyland franchises. In an effort to appeal to local Chinese culture, Disneyland Hong Kong made several adjustments to their park's layout in order to follow rules of Feng Shui and to achieve good "chi", or energy, for the location.

The park is home to four themed areas: Tomorrowland, Adventureland, Fantasyland, and Main Street U.S.A. Each contains various rides, restaurants, games, and attractions related to their individual themes. Plans are in progress to expand the park by the year 2014, and to have three new themed "lands". These will be Mystic Point, with a rainforest theme, Toy Story Land, based on the Pixar film, and Grizzly Gulch, designed to be a abandoned mining town. These three additions will likely boost both attendance and revenue for the park, and will increase the size by 13 acres, bringing the total acreage to 68.

There are several attractions, parades, and shows that invite guests to stay longer in Hong Kong Disneyland. A daily parade, Flights of Fantasy, is a 35 minute celebration that crosses the main areas of the park and consists of many characters and floats. Created to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the park, it is a true show-stopper and certainly one of the highlights of the park. There are other season-specific parades throughout the year, including a summer "Mickey's WaterWorks" parade and a halloween parade in September and November. A nightly fireworks display entitled Disney in the Stars is often the last thing visitors experience after a day at the park. It is set to a soundtrack of popular Disney songs and can be seen throughout the park.

Visitors travel to Disneyland Hong Kong via the Disney Express MTR train from Sunny Bay station. Alternatively, there are several hotels within the resort on Lantau Island for guests who would like more than one day to explore the park.
