International Finance Centre Hotels

Hong Kong's International Finance Centre is eighty eight stories high, making it a prominent landmark of downtown Hong Kong. With a construction cost of almost twenty billion dollars, the International Finance Centre is the tallest building in Hong Kong and the seventh tallest in the world. The Airport Express Mass Transit Railway connects the Finance Centre with Hong Kong International Airport.

More On IFC

The International Finance Centre, located in the Central District on Hong Kong Island, is commonly referred to as the "IFC". It consists of two buildings, although one is significantly taller than the other. The tallest tower, or IFC 2, is the eighth tallest office building in existence. IFC 1 opened in 1998, and was followed by IFC 2 in 2003. They are recognizable around the world thanks to their many appearances in feature films such as The Dark Knight and Lara Croft Tomb Raider.

The International Finance Centre is home to many business offices, and some of the most prestigious tenants include Bank of America, Standard Chartered Bank, ING Group, and the Hong Kong Monetary Authority. Despite these big-name financial offices occupying much of the two buildings, the IFC is also known for housing one of the most upscale malls in Asia. There are four stories in IFC 1 devoted entirely to shopping, and the majority of the stores are for clothing, beauty, and computer items. There are several flagship and concept stores, and the mall is a major attraction for tourists.

Within the shopping mall there are also several bars and restaurants. Some of the restaurants are fast-casual and inexpensive, and others, including the 3-Michelin starred Caprice, are far more upscale. The top floor is devoted to outdoor eating establishments like Red Bar and Grill, although the tables and chairs are technically public space so one does not need to order food or drinks to be allowed to relax and enjoy the view from the balcony.

The International Finance Centre is easily accessible. The MTR, or underground train, operates a main station just underneath the mall, and an airport-express train operates from the same location. A covered walkway lets visitors easily enter from the nearly ferry terminals coming from places like Kowloon or Lantau Island. There are also taxi stands at two of the main exits. For those who wish to stay a little longer, the Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong is connected to the IFC, and is famous for being the only hotel in the world with two 3-Michelin-star restaurants.
